What is conflict? What is violence? What is peace? What is education for peace? How can educational contexts contribute to the development of peaceful societies? How can individuals and contexts complement each other to cultivate peace? Are human rights frameworks complementary to peaceful societies, and if so, how?
The above are some of the questions that this course intends to answer, or at least begin to answer. These are questions of vital importance which need to be grappled with, particularly at the present national socio-political juncture marked by a post-conflict phase. How actors working in education as well as other disciplinary fields (e.g. government, international relations, social communication) address these challenging questions can make significant contributions to setting the stage for a robust democracy, leaving behind a defective democracy.
