Mark Duffy

Born in Ireland, Mark has lived in the U.K., France and Argentina. He has been living in Colombia since 1995. He studied French and economics at University College, Cork, and did foundation courses in anthropology in France. He has worked as a freelance writer and editor for Footprint Handbooks, publishers of the South American Handbook travel guide and was co-author of the first edition of the Colombia Handbook. As a freelance journalist, he has worked for different media outlets in Ireland, the U.K, an the U.S., covering social and environmental issues in Colombia. In recent years, his his research interest has focused on indigenous langugaes, particularly ikun, the language of the Arhuaco nation in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, and he is currently studying runa simi, the Quechua language at the Universidad Nacional de la Artes in Buenos Aires.
