Externado delegation makes an academic visit to the United Kingdom

A delegation of four professors from the Faculties of FIGRI and Economics, with a junior researcher from Faculty of Economics, made an academic visit to Essex University.

Within the framework of the project «Local governance with impact through data analysis –COLGOV», the academics presented research carried out at the Externado University, related to local governance. In addition, the members of the delegation were trained in quantitative frontier methods at the Essex Summer School in topics such as: advanced methods of impact evaluation of public policies, machine learning, and quantitative analysis of texts.

Additionally, the delegation held a series of meetings to strengthen the ties of academic cooperation between both universities. The first one, with members of the Catalyst and EIRA projects, internationally recognized for their contributions to development in the eastern region of the United Kingdom. The second, participation in the text extraction workshops in Spanish, led by PhD. Kakia Chatsiou.

This academic activity benefited from funding from the British government’s Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), which on this occasion sought to provide spaces for collaboration between prestigious universities in Colombia and the United Kingdom.

This is the second rapprochement between Externado University and the University of Essex.

In a second phase of the project, it is expected that more students and teachers from the Externado will be trained in this set of tools, and an event will be held in Colombia where researchers from the two universities will share the results of their research and initiatives with local officials and local policy makers in Colombia.
