What to do if you have been selected?
Once having completed the selection process, the Student Exchange Office offers each student the instructions they need to follow. They must gather together the documentation to process their candidacy which will be presented to the partner university. The dates, documents and the form of shipping them are set forth by each foreign institution and can be different in each case.
Important: If to present your candidacy, the partner university requests that you preselect or permanently select your courses, you must then consult the instructions and parameters described in *How to homologate a semester or year of study abroad? [2]
The confirmation of registration of the student in the foreign university is not guaranteed until receiving the letter of acceptance issued from the same. This document certifies that the student will carry out studies there in the precise period and dates. This can be sent to the Student Exchange Office or directly to the student. It is indispensable for obtaining a student visa and must be presented at the corresponding consulate or embassy. The partner universities may take some time in sending the letter of acceptance and it is recommendable that the student be patient.
During this wait period, the student shall participate in the information and guidance meetings organized by the Student Exchange Office and can be involved in obtaining the necessary documentation for the visa and the general preparation for the student exchange. The following are recommendations:
Design a budget sufficient for the legal procedures, arrival and the first month in the country of destination.
Get a student insurance policy abroad that will cover you while you are outside the country (in some cases it is possible that this is an application requirement demanded by the foreign partner university).
Check out the conditions for lodging in the country of destination.
Get to know your university of destination, the classes, the methodology, the city where the university is located, etc.
