Fecha: 22 de febrero de 2017

Hora: 12:00 am - 1:00 pm

The presentation of the Cultural Notebook “Memorias del Club de Cine Externadista - Más allá de la pantalla, 2008-2015” (Memories of the Externadista Cinema Club - Beyond the screen, 2008-2015) will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2017. The book compiles complete analyses on feature films shown during nearly a decade, as part of the Cultural Decanatura activities.

The encounter, held at the Library, Room 1, at 12 noon, features participation by Mauricio Laurens, author of the book, movie critic, and Externado de Colombia cinema professor since 1993.

Up to now, Laurens has produced close to 2,400 periodical publications for the El Tiempo Newspaper and over 850 radio broadcasts devoted exclusively to film («The voice of the celluloid»).

The book contains, in 360 pages, contextualized analysis of 185 feature films screened over the last eight years, in 14 chapters or half-yearly cycles, for a total of 138 directors, constituting «a disciplined and rigorous approach to the phenomenon represented in a film,” as stated by author and prologue writer, Hugo Chaparro Valderrama.

Highlighted among the chapters subject of a thorough thematic compilation are “Del libro a la pantalla.” “Conflicto armado,” “El muro y la libertad,” “Relaciones de pareja,” “Películas de género,” Cine de autor,” and “Historia y sociedad.”

The presentation of the current book, which is the continuation of a previous publication, Enfoques de película (1997-2007) (Approaches to film) of 174 allusive titles, will be attended by Rector Juan Carlos Henao and poet Miguel Méndez Camacho, Cultural Dean and editor of the publication.

Also attending are Patricia Vélez de Monchaux, Library Director, and Richard Tovar Cárdenas, director of the Interdisciplinary Studies Institute.
