Universidad Externado de Colombia Law Schools program in undergraduate studies has recognised accreditation in the country. It lasts 5 years, on-campus, with the methodology of cathedra classes, community workshops and seminars, in addition to legal clinic.
It is pertinent to note that the growth of the department has been parallel in undergraduate and postgraduate studies, since the former has been recognised as a major axis for the future.
Thus, the Department of Economic Law the Universidad Externado opened for the first time in 1996 the Optional Seminar in Economic Law for the third year students of Law School and the cathedra class on the same subject in the Faculty of Finance and International Relations for the eighth semester students.
Subsequently, in 1997, in the fourth semester of Economics School, the cathedra class in Economic Law was opened; since 1997, and to date, these chairs and programs have had variations and extensions, within one of the faculties, resulting in an expanded scheme both in Law School, as well as the other related Schools.
Our academic unit, always at the service of the students, was a pioneer in the implementation of internships 100% on field, whose objective is that students, before going out to the work market, have an experience that helps them to face and apply their knowledge in different real daily situations.
Afterwards, the Department of Economic Law led the teaching and monitoring of mathematics for Law School, constituting a differentiating feature of the career compared to other universities and departments. Nowadays, the subject of mathematics is coordinated directly by the Department of Mathematics.
Together with the English Department, we promoted the modification of second languages for future lawyers, designing academic and programmatic content that would respond to their professional needs. In the second semester of 2016 a space was created 100% in English, that allows the training and preparation of undergraduate students interested in participating in international moot courts, thus giving rise to the subject of International Litigation
The Economic Law Department leads the subjects for law School: Economic theory, Colombian economy, Economic analysis of law (EAL), international litigation, negotiation of international trade agreements, internships, consumer law, competition law, techniques in international negotiation, international business transactions, international investment arbitration, commercial investment arbitration, among others.
We currently represent Universidad Externado de Colombia in international moot courts such as: Foreign Direct Investment Arbitration Moot (FDI), Phillip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition, Free Competition Moot court, Competition Law Debate German Cavalier and the José Ignacio de Marquez Junior award.
