Tourism and Society Research Group
Since July 2003, the "Tourism and Society" group has been recognized by Colciencias. This recognition was granted for the first time to a group in this discipline in the country, within the areas of knowledge of applied social sciences. The research group is made up of research professors with interdisciplinary training, linked to the research lines of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
According to the results of the call for proposals 833 of 2018 of the Administrative Department of Science, Technology and Innovation- COLCIENCIAS, the «Tourism and Society» research group was classified in category B which is considered an important achievement, given that it is the first time it has reached this category.
Below are the general objective, specific objectives and lines of research that govern the Group:
To develop research that responds to the reflections and problems of tourism, the dynamics and interactions between its social actors and organizations.
- To build a high-level academic community that allows the Faculty and society to enrich its knowledge in the field of tourism, with new contributions from the social sciences and with a great humanistic and universal content.
- Design and offer undergraduate and graduate programs of high academic quality to respond to the demands of the sector and contribute to generating, recontextualizing and disseminating knowledge in this field both nationally and internationally.
- Generate academic spaces to guarantee the continuous improvement of the team of teachers, researchers and administrative personnel of the Faculty.

- Promote research as a fundamental support for training with undergraduate and graduate programs, for the construction of processes of academic excellence.
- Support with excellent academic quality training in continuing education and postgraduate programs to meet the requirements of tourism development.
- Strengthen the publications policy and stimulate the intellectual production of the members of the academic community to achieve the exchange of knowledge and facilitate dialogue among academic peers.
