El Externado será sede del VII Foro Regional de Naciones Unidas sobre Empresas y Derechos Humanos en América Latina y el Caribe

La Universidad Externado de Colombia invita a los(as) interesados(as) a participar en este evento, que se realizará de manera presencial los próximos 13, 14 y 15 de julio. La temática central de esta edición es mejorar la rendición de cuentas para una conducta empresarial más responsable.

El VII Foro es organizado por la Oficina de la Alta Comisionada para los Derechos humanos y el Grupo de Trabajo sobre la Cuestión de los Derechos Humanos, las Empresas Transnacionales y Otras Empresas; con el apoyo de la Organización para la Cooperación y el Desarrollo Económicos (OCDE), la Organización Internacional del Trabajo (OIT), la Unión Europea en el marco del proyecto CERALC, la Cancillería de Colombia, la Consejería Presidencial para los Derechos Humanos y Asuntos Internacionales, la Defensoría del Pueblo y la Universidad Externado de Colombia. 

El Foro Regional sobre Empresas y Derechos Humanos proporciona un espacio único para el diálogo entre los Estados, las empresas, la sociedad civil, los grupos afectados – incluidos pueblos indígenas -, las organizaciones de trabajadores/as y las organizaciones regionales e internacionales; para abordar la temática central del foro que, para esta edición, será mejorar la rendición de cuentas para una conducta empresarial más responsable, así como dar una mirada a las tendencias, desafíos y buenas prácticas en la prevención y el tratamiento de los impactos sobre los derechos humanos relacionados con las empresas de América Latina y el Caribe.

Juan Carlos Monge, Representante Adjunto de la Oficina en Colombia del Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos, reconoce que la relación entre el Externado, el Observatorio Latinoamericano de Derechos Humanos y Empresas del Departamento de Derecho Constitucional, y Naciones Unidas, cumple varios años y destaca el papel que asumió la Universidad al organizar los foros preparatorios y ser la sede de este importante evento.

Sobre las expectativas, Monge afirma que el foro ofrece una oportunidad para que Colombia muestre a los demás países de la región de América latina y el Caribe sus avances y los desafíos que aún tiene en el tema de empresas y Derechos Humanos en la implementación de los principios rectores de Naciones Unidas.

“También en una oportunidad para que los demás países puedan compartir sus experiencias y sus múltiples desafíos, que muchas veces resultan ser comunes”, comentó Monge.

La invitación a participar es general a toda las personas interesadas. Será una gran oportunidad para que los diferentes sectores que trabajan en estos temas se unan y discutan sobre los avaneces, los desafíos y las medidas que se deben adoptar para seguir adelante y hacer realidad estos principios.

Externado to Host the VII Regional Forum of the United Nations on Companies and Human Rights in the Caribbean and Latin America

Universidad Externado de Colombia invites all who are interested to participate in this event that will be held on 13, 14 and 15 July 2022. The central theme is to improve accountability for more responsible business conduct.

The VII Forum is organised by the following institutions: The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Working Group on Traditional Business and Human Rights, with the support of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the International Labour Organisation, and the European Union within the framework of the CERALC project. The Colombian Foreign Ministry, the Presidential Council for Human Rights and International Affairs, the Ombudsman’s Office and Universidad Externado de Colombia are also involved.

The Regional Forum provides a unique space for dialogue among the participating States, business, civil society, and the affected groups – including indigenous communities – labour organisations, and regional and international organisations. Together, they will address the central objective of the forum, which is to improve accountability to promote more responsible business activity. Likewise, to review the trends, challenges, and good practices in preventing, and addressing the impact on human rights related to business in Latin American and the Caribbean.

Juan Carlos Monge, Deputy Representative of the Office of the High Commissioner of the United Nations for Human Rights in Colombia recognised the long-standing relationship between the Externado, the Latin American Observatory in Human Rights and Business of the Constitutional Law Department, and the United Nations. He highlighted the role that the University assumed in organising the preparatory forums and hosting this important event.

Regarding the expectations, Monge affirmed that the forum offers an opportunity for Colombia to show to other countries, in the Latin American and Caribbean region, its progress and the challenges that remain for business and human rights in the implementation of the guiding principles of the United Nations.

“It is also an opportunity for the other countries to talk about their experiences, and the many challenges that often turn out to be commonly shared,” commented Monge.

This invitation to participate in the event is being extended to all interested parties. It will be a great opportunity for the different sectors involved in these fields of work to come together and discuss the progress, challenges and measures that should be adopted to move forward and make these principles a reality.
