State and economy
Description
This research group studies the relations between the State and the Economy. Topics such as economic regulation, the role of institutions in economic development, regional and urban economy, economic analysis of law, public policies, ethical and political reflection, among others, are addressed.
Due to its multidisciplinary nature, teachers and students from the Faculties of Economics, Law, Business Administration and Administration of Tourism and Hotel Companies participate in academic research. It is classified in category A by Colciencias.

Research topics
His areas of application are public policy, applied microeconomics, macroeconomics, public administration, university teaching and research.
Competition, Markets and Regulation
- Its inquiries about free competition in national markets.
- Discuss consumer welfare in Colombia, making a comparison with international standards.
- Suggests evaluation and alert strategies against the violation of consumer rights.
Macroeconomic and sectoral studies
- It evaluates the macroeconomic institutional framework of Colombia, with the purpose of making a theoretical and empirical analysis of the national situation.
- Analyze the country’s macroeconomic policy.
- It fosters spaces for debate between academia and the public sector with the aim of making balances on the different impacts of fiscal, monetary and exchange policy in Colombia.
Political economy
- It introduces an economics discipline that can be contrasted and verified with related social science findings.
- Suggest strategies that allow progress in the examination and solution of current social challenges.
- Discuss the traditions of economic thought to be testable as its empirical support.
Social economy
- It investigates and evaluates in a multidisciplinary way public, private and state social policies.
- It qualifies the design and construction of strategies, in the execution of programs for institutional strengthening, their follow-up and evaluation.
- Strengthens the analysis, design and preparation of proposals that contribute to decisions oriented to regional, local, and national development.
Tourism economy
- It introduces the notion of tourism into the economic analysis, to generate theoretical and empirical investigative inertias in one of the most relevant economic activities at the national level.
- Evaluates the challenges and opportunities of tourist activity within the economic circuit.
- Strengthens theoretical and empirical research in this area of study at the national level.
The research group on State and Economics presents the topics that the students of the masters in economics will be able to develop with the researchers of the group during 2021.
